A Woman's Guide to Sensual Film

THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI (2002)

Review by Teresa

I loved the setting for this movie - it pulls you into an incredibly tight little family unit, where the father has the best of intentions. The family compound is very visceral and you feel like you could be there. But sensual?

I didn't find this movie sensual - there were too many stereotypes w/o depth for me. The replacement wife is perfect, great with kids, a giggly girl when she needs to be, but man can she do laundry! I didn't see any warmth or magnetism between the twilight samurai and his childhood sweetheart - consequently about halfway through the movie, it became boring to me - sure sign a movie is not sensual. By this time, the viewer knows the setting and is waiting for some fireworks, but for me they never came. I actually couldn't wait for the movie to end.
