ABOUT ADAM (2000)

Review by Teresa
About what?...This story about someone (Adam) who has no pizzazz (for me) that decides to agree to marry someone (Kate Hudson as Sister #1 - unconvincing as a singing waitress) for no apparent reason (almost anyone will do) is not at all sensual to me. There is no passion here - it's all pretty much a game - Adam is supposed to inspire everyone he comes into contact with to either sleep with him or sleep with someone he wants them to sleep with. But unfortunately, Don Juan this Adam is not. There is not the least indication that he just can't help himself when it comes to women. All of his encounters seem very calculated and fairly boring and predictable. And, therefore, it's just not sensuous that the 2 other sisters sleep with Adam behind their sister's back and then smile away knowingly at her wedding, encouraging her to commit to the marriage because we all should have secrets from one another. Ick. Where's the passion in that?! That's self gratification, lack of commitment, and complete disrespect for your significant other. And don't get me wrong. A good Don Juan will get me every time. This...Adam...just does not give off the vibe that he really loves women for the sake of women. He's just on the make, and then the movie ends with the marriage that just makes no sense.
