A Woman's Guide to Sensual Film

OUT OF SIGHT (1998)

Review by Barbara

OUT OF SIGHT is a cat and mouse game between a serious cop who finds herself caught off guard and thus unsettled and a carefree, devil-may-care crook who also finds himself in the same position. They “get acquainted” in the spoon position in the trunk of the car, and that is the beginning of their attraction for each other…and from that point on they leave no doubt about their mutual attraction. She gives him a sassy once over.He puts himself in jeopardy by keeping constant tabs on her.

There are several dream sequences that are very provocative, especially since it is hard to tell where the dreams end and reality begins.I liked the dream in which he pulls her into the tub while she is fully dressed in her very professional looking suit. There is a nice chemistry between the two characters, and they maintain the sexiness of their connection in spite of all the violence that is going on around them.

The music is a great support for the sensuality or more precisely the sultry quality of the film. It has a nice beat that keeps you a little on edge and enhances the sensual tone.

I like one long quote that kind of sums up what makes this connection between the proper cop and the improper crook believable:“It’s something that happens. It’s like seeing someone for the first time like you could be passing on the street and you look at each other for a few seconds. There’s this kind of recognition…and you both know something. The next moment the person’s gone and it’s too late to do anything. And you always remember it was there and you let it go.What if I had stopped? What if I’d said something? What if?And it may only happen a few times in your life.”…and she replies “…or once.”
